Mayhew's Estate was the fictional residence of Phoenix International property manager Alexander Mayhew, located in the Kansai region of Honshu, Japan.[1] The location appeared in Electronic Arts' 2002 James Bond video-game Nightfire, during its 'Double Cross' level.

History[]

After a security breach led to the discovery of his world domination scheme, Phoenix International CEO Rafael Drake threatened to kill the man responsible: Alexander Mayhew. Double-crossing Drake, Mayhew contacted the British Secret Intelligence Service and offered them vital information on "Project Nightfire" in exchange for protection. Shortly afterwards, Mayhew's Japanese estate was assaulted by Drake's Yakuza associates; secretly assisted by his treacherous bodyguard Makiko Hayashi. After escorting Mayhew to a hidden safe room, James Bond fought his way through the estate, cleaning up loose ends and rescuing Mayhew's servants. Mayhew was subsequently killed by an assassin as they attempted to escape from the estate and, with his dying breath, led Bond to incriminating evidence at his office in the Tokyo Phoenix Building.

Although the estate's layout and mission objective locations vary between the computer and console versions of Nightfire, the general layout and traditional Japanese architecture of the estate are very similar; often sharing hidden passages and game mechanics. The estate consists of a main building with a front driveway and a large ornamental garden at the rear of the property.

Trivia[]

  • While the estate makes extensive use of traditional partitions called shoji, the usually paper-thin structures are bullet-proof in Nightfire due to engine limitations.
