The French Republic (French: République française) or France (French: France, [fʁɑ̃s]) is a state that consists of a core region in Western Europe and several overseas regions. The constitution of the French Fifth Republic was adopted in 1958, since then the country has been a semi-presidential republic.

James Bond has visited France in Thunderball (pre-titles), Moonraker (film), Licence Renewed, and A View to a Kill (climbing the Eiffel Tower).

Many characters in Bond universe are of French origin. Two of Bond's biggest loves, Tracy Bond and Madeleine Swann (and Bond's daughter, Mathilde Swann) are of French heritage. Intelligence officer René Mathis is one of Bond's most trusted friends and most frequently reoccurring characters. With villains; Le Chiffre, Max Zorin (ethnically German with French citizenship) and Nick Nack are some of the best known ones.
