The industrial laser was a piece of equipment, owned by Auric Goldfinger, that used a laser to cut materials at his metallurgical and engineering plant in Switzerland. Typically used for industrial manufacturing applications, Goldfinger had the equipment shipped to America for his planned raid on Fort Knox. The iconic laser first appeared in EON Productions' 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger and was later re-imagined for the video-games GoldenEye: Rogue Agent (2004) and 007 Legends (2012).

Goldfinger (film)

Introduced in Goldfinger, the cumbersome industrial equipment was designed to direct a focused laser beam at a desired material, which then either melted, burned, or vaporized away. Powerful enough to put a laser dot on the moon, or at very close range able to cut through steel, Goldfinger primarily used it to cut flat-sheets of gold at his metallurgical plant. After James Bond is caught spying on the facility Goldfinger attempts to have him cut in two using the laser, but eventually relents and holds him prisoner instead. The laser is later shipped to the United States from Switzerland by Mr. Solo, one of a trio of American Mafia bosses who joined up with Goldfinger for "Operation Grand Slam". Mounted and concealed inside a phony U.S. Army ambulance, the laser was later used to cut open the vault door at Fort Knox.
