The Moonraker laser pistol was a fictional handheld directed-energy weapon designed primarily for space warfare. It was first featured in the 1979 James Bond film, Moonraker, and was subsequently re-imagined for a 1985 talking storybook adaptation of the movie, as well as the video-games GoldenEye 007: Reloaded (2010) and 007 Legends (2012).

History[]

Moonraker (film)[]

In the 1979 James Bond film Moonraker the laser pistol was made by the Drax Enterprise Corporation for security purpose of Hugo Drax's Space Station guard. In the film, the pistol was used by Drax's guard while they fought against the U.S. Marines. Dr. Holly Goodhead used one to help the Marines. When Drax was trapped between James Bond and the airlock door he manage to snatch one near one of his dead guard, and was about to kill Bond when Bond fires a Cyanide dart from his Wrist-Mounted Dart Gun at Drax before sending the villain into space.

Alternate Continuities[]

James Bond 007 Moonraker (Kid Stuff)[]

In 1985, the laser pistol was re-imagined for a children's talking storybook adaptation of 1979's Moonraker, published by Kid Stuff Records & Tapes. Unlike the film, its design is more pedestrian; resembling a black Luger pistol. Bond pursues Hugo Drax to his Orbiting Station and, after being spotted by a guard, is held at gunpoint by the super-villain. Before he could shoot Bond, the spy tricked him into allowing him to check the time on his wristwatch - shooting a dart into the villain's chest. Bond ejected him into space and then set about destroying the station's radar jamming equipment with the pistol.

GoldenEye 007 (2010 game)[]

The Moonraker laser pistol appears in the video-games Goldeneye 007: Reloaded (2010), and 007 Legends (2012). Like its big brother, the laser rifle, the laser pistol has unlimited ammunition.

The weapon made its first appearance in the "00 Edition" of Goldeneye 007: Reloaded (2010) on Playstation 3. When purchased, the player received a redeemable code for an extra multiplayer character (Hugo Drax) and the Moonraker Laser Pistol both white and black, also for multiplayer use.

007 Legends[]

The laser pistol made its second appearance in the 2012 game 007 Legends. It was usable in multiplayer mode.
