RMS Queen Elizabeth

The RMS Queen Elizabeth is a real ocean liner operated by Cunard Line launched 27 September 1938. It was featured as MI6 headquarters in The Man with the Golden Gun.

History[]

In The Man with the Golden Gun, James Bond shadows Andrea Anders from Macau to Hong Kong. On board the ship, he hears the public address state that towards the left, the wreck of the liner Queen Elizabeth could be seen, stating it sunk in mysterious circumstances in 1971. Later on, Bond is caught outside the Bottoms Up Club with the energy expert Gibson shot. Lieutenant Hip picks him up, telling the arriving police he's charging Bond under Section 473. Hip takes Bond onto a boat but it heads away from Kowloon and Bond jumps aboard the wreckage of the RMS Queen Elizabeth. To his surprise, a British voice welcomes him, addressing him by his naval rank and a hatch opens.

A naval officer welcomes him and informs him this hideout can't be bugged by either the Chinese or American Fleet. Every step is slanted. Bond witnesses a damaged Chinese plane which the officer tells him they managed to salvage.

Trivia[]

The real-life RMS Queen Elizabeth did sink in Hong Kong Harbour.
