William Boyd (born March 7, 1952 in Ghana) is an English novelist and author who is writing the 2013 James Bond novel titled Solo.


Boyd was born in Ghana and moved around as a child, studying in Scotland and Nice, France. He worked at St. Hilda's college in Oxford in the early 1980s where he wrote his first novel, A Good Man in Africa. He has since published numerous novels and won numerous literary awards.

In 2005 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
